In the ’70s, long before neon-splashed plaits and glitter-dusted roots were crafted for the theater of Instagram, summer hair was something entirely different. The decade’s rock ’n’ roll musicians and showgoers alike were letting their manes run wild and free. And at the forefront of this devil-may-care hair attitude was none other than witchy goddess Stevie Nicks, who turns 75 today. For Fleetwood Mac’s frontwoman, there was no such thing as a bad hair day.
Throughout her research for the book, Dunn interviewed a range of specialists, including ob-gyns, neuroscientists, dermatologists, psychologists, and more, in an effort to help readers understand how to find relief from symptoms, including hot flashes, painful sex, and changes in mood. Ultimately, it’s a step toward removing the mystery around something that “happens to half of the population of the earth,” she stresses. And interestingly, Dunn’s research is emerging at a time when our younger generations are more delighted than ever to cosplay as their elders. Eileen Fisher clothes are trending on TikTok, Julia Fox is waxing on about the beauty of silver hair, and there’s a certain chicness and sophistication associated with getting older today. Still, Dunn emphasizes that at any age, it’s no one’s responsibility to take on the persona of a mythic owl. “One thing I did avoid in the book is the word ‘wisdom’ because I feel like there’s so much pressure on women to become wise when they get older,” says Dunn. “Well, maybe you’re not wise!” she laughs.
For her daytime look, Lawrence wore a gray, knitted sheath dress from Dior’s spring 2023 couture collection. Slightly beachy in feel (appropriate for seaside Cannes), the coverall design with a deep-V in the back exposed a hint of a satin bra and briefs worn underneath. It was an effortless, and slightly unexpected, choice. Having paid tribute to the theme of this year's Met Gala in her vintage Chanel ballgown, Dua Lipa has brought us yet another fashion moment, this time on the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival. The star attended the premiere of the film The King of Algiers (Omar la Fraise) by Elias Belkeddar, where the artist also chose to occasion to make it red carpet official with her new beaux, the French director Romain Gavras. (The couple had already been spotted together at the Saint Laurent show during Paris Fashion Week.) For the occasion, Lipa opted for a long, asymmetrical black dress, featuring a dramatic leg slit and cut-out details. The resulting look was effortlessly elegant.
