Shortly before presenting her latest collection at Paris Fashion Week, Ellen Hodakova Larsson won the prestigious LVMH Prize. This, combined with a growing presence at red carpet events – see: Cate Blanchett's 102 spoons – means there's more interest than ever in the young Swede's work. Her spring 2025 presentation answered the question: "Can these old riding boots be turned into an evening dress?" with a resounding yes. A clever and sometimes surreal manipulation of the unsold is Larsson's specialty. Last night, Saoirse Ronan was photographed at a screening of her new film, Outrun – in which she plays a recovering alcoholic volunteering for the RSPB on a remote Scottish archipelago – in Jimmy Choo heels and a waxed coat-turned-dress that first appeared in the designer’s fall 2024 collection. (The plaid lining was transformed into a halter neck, while the body of the coat hung from the hem.) She may be the only person who has ever made Balmoral look modern.
Ms. Prada’s casting expertise, however, may be celebrity offspring; consider Miu Miu’s relationships with Esther McGregor, Zaya Wade, and Ella Emhoff. It was also Miu Miu that first cast Lila Moss in a fashion show, just days after her 18th birthday, with Kate Moss’s daughter and Dazed co-founder Jefferson Hack opening and closing the spring 2021 show during Milan Fashion Week. So what does this mean for Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban? When the fall 2025 collection debuts in February, I bet we’ll have a month of Sundays.
Of course, Miu Miu is known for its unexpected casting choices. Its fall 2024 runway featured Kristin Scott Thomas and The Crown's Luther Ford on the Palais d'Iéna catwalk, not to mention an appearance by Dr. Qin Huilan, a retired doctor in her seventies with a penchant for Prada coats. The season before, Rosemary Ferguson returned from retirement at Mrs. Prada's request ("It was a big stage to walk on," she told Vogue. "I've lived a very different life for a long time..."), while Miranda July appeared in spring 2024 before collaborating with the house on the short film Somebody.
