After having his hair and dewy makeup looked after by Joe Kelly and Georgi Sandev, respectively, it’s time to get dressed. Sivan’s look for the premiere is custom Valentino: an off-the-shoulder top with slim, dark trousers, an appealingly boxy jacket, and kicky leather boots. The humbling outlier? “I feel shook that I’m wearing these insanely beautiful custom clothes and then my terrible old socks underneath,” Sivan wryly notes. His after-party outfit is a different story: Sivan’s options are an intricate black top from Alexander McQueen and a dazzling (but heavy) Ludovic de Saint Sernin dress. (For range-of-motion reasons, he opts for the former.) Then, after dousing himself in fragrance “I really want people to be like, ‘Damn, who is that?’ You know?” Sivan is off into the night.
After making its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this past Saturday, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon is already garnering serious Oscars buzz. The film based on David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name is centered around the FBI investigation of a series of murders of Native Americans from the Osage tribe in the 1920s, after oil was discovered on their tribal land. Starring in the tale of greed, corruption, and power are Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tantoo Cardinal, and Robert De Niro. The attention for the film is historic, given it’s a rare project in Hollywood that features a largely Indigenous cast, including actors Gladstone, Cardinal, Cara Jade Myers, Janae Collins, Jillian Dion, and Tatanka Means.
Summer’s riveting story from her difficult childhood in Boston, where she eagerly sang in church, to her early break in Germany, hard-won success in the American disco scene, late-career controversies, and fatal battle with lung cancer is the subject of a new HBO documentary, Love to Love You, Donna Summer. Directed by Roger Ross Williams and Summer’s daughter Brooklyn Sudano, it combines extensive home videos and concert footage with intimate new interviews, primarily with members of Summer’s immediate family, painting a textured portrait of a complicated star.
