It’s no secret that Cardi B is a devoted heel lover. When she rapped about “bloody shoes” on her song Bodak Yellow, she was referring to her love of Christian Louboutin’s signature red bottoms. Even during the height of the pandemic, when most people found comfort in sweats, she would post photos of herself at home wearing sky-high Dolce & Gabbana wedges instead. She simply loves skyscraper shoes! But her latest look has the star taking death-defying platforms to a whole other level.
With plenty of buzz and conversation behind it, The Idol premiered at Cannes Films Festival on Monday. Blackpink member Jennie Kim, who makes her acting debut in the gritty drama, hit the red carpet in an angelic midi dress by Chanel. The white lace midi dress, designed by Virginie Viard, featured a corset silhouette on top and a voluminous lower-half and tulle hem. While not necessarily fitting into standard definitions and perceptions of vintage, Kim did turn to the house’s archives for the graceful number. The dress is from Chanel’s spring 2020 couture show, the first with Viard as creative director following the death of Karl Lagerfeld.
Of course, it’s not the first time Sweeney has worn Miu Miu for such a high-profile event. The star is a face for the brand, and has often worn its sweet, feminine designs on the red carpet. “Miu Miu has become my family,” says Sweeney. “I love the team of women who I’ve gotten close with, and I love how collaborative they are with me for my looks. I love their clothes, bags, and accessories they’re effortlessly cool.” What’s Sweeney up to post-festival, meanwhile? She’s heading right back to set. “I head back to Pennsylvania to finish up shooting my new movie Echo Valley with Julianne Moore,” she teases. We can’t wait to see which ensemble she busts out for the premiere.
