The crisp, button-down suits that Chalamet wears on screen are a big departure from his personal, off-duty style. And in many ways, they were new territory for me, too. The film’s costumes are all about perfecting the rigid tailoring of the 1950s, when men wore three-piece suits to, say, run errands or go to the post office. While the clothes harken back to a bygone era of formality, the high-waisted pleated trousers, roomy blazers, navy sweaters, and wide-collared shirts are incredibly on-trend—especially since brands like Phoebe Philo and The Row still embrace that casual, loose-fitting look.
One of the first images we saw of the outfit was Chalamet in a navy blue sweater over a wide-collared shirt and wide-leg pleated trousers. These structured trousers are all the rage right now (The Row has a great pair this season). Paired with woven brown leather dress shoes and silver-rimmed glasses, it’s a super-chic look. The same goes for Chalamet’s brown double-breasted suit, which is just the right size. (Baggy suits, incidentally, have been another recent fashion trend; this season, labels like Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent have embraced the look.) Chalamet’s classic white shirt and sky-blue tie fit the palette. It totally inspires me to go the extra mile this fall and commit to wearing a suit to the office; the XXL makes it a little cooler and more comfortable.
Earlier this year, Timothée Chalamet was spotted filming his upcoming Bob Dylan biopic while wearing the singer's signature leather jacket and cowboy boots. But now the actor is taking on his next big Hollywood project—and he's got a whole new wardrobe to match. This week, Chalamet was spotted in New York City filming Marty Supreme, Josh Safdie's upcoming film in which the star plays a 1950s table tennis player. I can't take my eyes off his impeccable, sleek, classic suits; they're my go-to fall fashion inspiration.
